5th Grade Clubs

5th Grade Art Club-- Sponsored by Mrs. Wagner (jwagner@wdsd7.org)
A club in which students explore media and techniques not typically used within the grade-level curriculum. Due to high demand, students are invited to participate in this club as part of a group that meets for several weeks while completing a project. In order to provide an opportunity for other students to participate, another group of children are then invited to participate for the next several weeks. Students participate during their recess and/or lunch period on Fridays.

5th Grade Chorus--Sponsored by Mr. Thoms (wthoms@wdsd7.org)
A club in which students focus on developing their vocal technique and learn repertoire that has a greater complexity and level of difficulty that will complement the grade-level curriculum. At various events throughout the year, the chorus has an opportunity to perform for a live audience such as the District 7 Winter Choral Concert, Spring Open House, and more.  Students participate during their lunch and/or recess period on Wednesdays.

Safety Patrol/Community Helpers--Sponsored by Mrs. Diaz (ddiaz@wdsd7.org) and Ms. Villa (mvilla@wdsd7.org)
A club in which students are trained to assist with the supervision of classmates during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. These students also apply etiquette standards while raising, lowering, and storing the American Flag each day. Students meet 1-2 Mondays per month and participate immediately before or after school according to an alternating schedule, including the training of new patrollers.  Students may also make other positive contributions to the school community by assisting teachers or office staff, typically during their recess period.

Newspaper (The Westview Gazette) --Sponsored by Mrs. Papanicolaou (epapanicolaou@wdsd7.org)
An electronic student newspaper in which students must apply and interview for inclusion on a staff of approximately 10 participants. Students then conduct interviews, write and edit stories, take photos, and publish throughout the school year for the entire school community to enjoy. Students participate during their recess period on Thursdays, beginning in October.
